Frequently Asked Question
Answers to the questions we hear most often about jade authenticity, safety standards, returns, classification and care.
How can you tell if the jade is genuine?
To a large extent, the jade market lacks uniform regulation, and brand names are not enough to guarantee quality. To judge whether the seller is credible, it is recommended to pay attention to the following five key dimensions: clear mineral type disclosure (must indicate whether it is jadeite or nephrite), written documentation, solid metal specifications (such as 14K or 18K gold), a clear return policy, and an open setting (the underside of the gem can be seen in the photo). Prior to purchase, the seller may be asked to provide a written explanation of the processing method (Type A / B / C). If the seller can offer it immediately, it is worth considering; caution should be exercised if it is not available or if the seller is unwilling to provide it.
What are the methods of processing jade? What do Types A, B and C stand for?
The treatment of jade (hard jade) is mainly divided into three categories:
· Type A: natural untreated, allowing only traditional surface waxing;
· Type B: after pickling to remove brown impurities, polymer resin is injected to improve stability and transparency;
· Type C: after dyeing treatment.
What are the safety standards for jade products?
Jade jewelry sold here must comply with ASTM F2999, the “Adult Jewelry Consumer Product Safety Standard Specification,” applicable to jewelry worn by consumers over the age of 12. The standard covers two main categories of risk: the presence of toxic metals and mechanical hazards.
Specific hazardous substance limits include:
· Lead (Pb): the total lead content of unplated metal does not exceed 1.5%; not more than 600 ppm in the surface coating;
· Cadmium (Cd): no further testing is required if the cadmium content is < 1.5% in the initial screening, otherwise the soluble cadmium test is required, and the plastic / polymer limit is ≤ 75 ppm;
· Nickel: no more than 0.5 µg/cm²/week from metal parts in direct contact with the skin.
Jade itself is a natural mineral, and the main safety risk is whether the processing methods and metal accessories (such as clasps and chains) meet the heavy metal limit requirements.
Can I return jade products?
Non-custom jade jewelry usually applies to the 30-day return window. Custom jade items such as engraved bracelets are usually not returnable because they cannot be sold again. Exceptions for returns of custom items include errors in the engraving or design that are not the responsibility of the buyer, damage upon arrival, or material differences between the item and the order. Even if the item is marked as “non-returnable,” it is still protected by the transaction guarantee.
Authenticity
Clear mineral type disclosure (jadeite or nephrite), written documentation, and an open setting so the underside can be inspected.
Safety
Adult jewellery must comply with ASTM F2999 heavy-metal limits for lead, cadmium and nickel.
Returns
A 30-day return window applies to non-customised jade; engraved or personalised pieces are generally not returnable.
More questions
· Fashion Jewelry: items in the jade beads category that use non-precious metal materials (such as stainless steel, brass, glass, cubic zirconia, metal plating) are fashion jewelry and do not require category review — they can go on shelves immediately;
· Fine Jewelry: jade products that use precious metals (gold, silver, platinum) or precious stones are fine jewelry and require category audits and quality assurance audits.
